$900 glorified waste basket/trash can

February 27th, 2013 at 05:37 am

We ordered a trash compactor online after searching for quite sometime to find what we though was the right one for us. It apparently has the ability to use a ton of force to mash the trash flat etc etc but when we use it not much happens.

We have followed instructions and called the repair man that the company we bought it from recommends, he says there is nothing he can do this is a common problem in this particular model. Soooooo.....we call the company once again and tell them that we either want a product that works {we could stomp the trash and compact it better than this machine does} or we want our money back. They say they can do nothing because we used the machine......oh really? Well how would you know it didnt work if you didn't use it?

Finally after several hours they told us to send it back to them and they will exchange it. The shipping one way is over $300 dollars and they want us to pay for it. Why do we have to pay to send a defective product back? What a mess! If we do all this that compacter will end up costing almost 1500 dollars!

Could you sell it locally online to recoup some of your costs? I think I'd just want to be done with the product after what you described. If you call back, try to escalate your call to a supervisor or manager...if you didn't already.

creditcardfree I'd hate to sell this to anyone else with the way it works. I imagine we will just count it as lost money and move on.

Understandable, Maranatha. Sometimes we do have to just cut our losses.

If you bought it with a credit card, I would dispute the charge.

I was just going to say what ironicone said. Did you buy it using a credit card?

That's very honest of you. If you can't convince this company to give you a full refund (which is what they should do if they're not willing to pay for the shipping on the exchange), you could always list it on Craigslist for a song and say it's for parts only because you think it's defective. Maybe you could recoup some of the cost.

I suggest contacting the District & Regional Manager of company + distributor/manufacturer whose toll free number is likely on the manual or avail on-line. Ask their assistance as they've given you a defective machine. If there is not reasonable action, I'd contact Better Business Bureau with written outline of problem and what you want them to do...contact.

Finally, I send a copy of your review of the trash compactor and issues with the company that you plan to offer to every consumer on-line site available. I believe you have an active Consumer Affairs agency who can act on your behalf if you're willing to do all the paperwork. Companies are slowly learning the power of internet. Negative reviews are now causing businesses to pick up their socks!

Wow, what a crappy company! Please let us know the manufacturer so we can avoid them... and you might also mention to them that you are a blogger, and you have a readership, and if they can`t lead this to an agreeable and fair resolution, you would certainly let the internet know about it. Customers deserve some insurance of decent service when a product doesn`t work!
