At A Complete Loss (Not Financial)

August 4th, 2014 at 12:52 am

My father passed away at 1235 this morning. He suffered so terribly in the last week of his life, then felt as though he had lost his dignity as his two daughters had to clean him after toileting etc. He wasn't able to do anything himself in the end. It was so terribly sad and just horrible.
He did smile up to the end, he was always a happy person, with not a bad word to say about anyone.

I've prayed and prayed this week that the Lord would take him. Daddy kept telling me he just wanted to go home, someone take me home. I told him he was home but he said he wanted to go to my mothers home that he missed her terribly. They were married 50 years when she passed away last October. I believe they are now reunited.

After being a caregiver for my parents for the last two years without hardly ever going to my home much at all I feel completely lost and sad and just feel such a void. I miss them both dearly and am not taking any of this well. I know they are in a better place, and I wouldn't want them here suffering but I just feel such a void and so lost. Please continue prayers for me, I need them now more than ever.

I am sorry for your loss. Give yourself time; you are too newly bereaved. It is hard to have to do such intimate things for our parents and such intimate caretaking makes the void more real. I hope you eventually get to a more peaceful place.(It took me about a year to be more back to my normal self.)

I'm so sorry. It's tough and the grieving does take time. I would suggest to find something forward-looking to focus upon and work toward.

I've lost (only) one parent and for a year or two, I remember having moments that I looked forward to sharing with my mom, only to remind myself that I couldn't do that anymore. And then it felt like the finality of her death would hit me again.

Take care of yourself. You will find meaningful activities to take the place of your caregiver duties. I'm sure you do feel a void now - both from the loss of those so close to you and the complete disruption of your normal schedule.

    My prayers are with you.

Condolences, it's so difficult to lose a beloved parent. You'd mentioned his last weeks were difficult so the one saving grace is that his suffering has ended and he's in a better place. With bereavement so new we send our wish for you to manage hour by hour at such a sad time.

“It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.”
    ― Lemony Snicket, Horseradish

So very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is a very loose ends feeling to lose a parent, especially if you are their caregiver. For the last two years I keep catching myself wanting to tell Dad something, but I can't. I imagine it is more so to have them both gone. It's almost like you aren't entirely sure of where your place is anymore, because it has been so devoted for so long to that one thing. Hang in there.
